Worthy Bands: Thunderunderus

Fang VonWrathensteinWorthy Bands

Welcome, minions, to our (hopefully) monthly column called Worthy Bands. A Worthy Band is a band that has shared the stage with your LORDS, and did not instantly cower behind their amps, disintegrate, or simultaneously die of heart attacks. Showing this bravery gains them favor in the eyes of their LORDS, and we think you should know more about them! So, without further ado, let us introduce this month’s Worthy Band:

Thunderunderus is probably our favorite Chicago-area dirty rock & roll band. The story of how we met was pretty hilarious. Eons ago, we were playing The Reptile Palace in Oshkosh, WI. Our minion Michelle (leader of the Wisconsin Extreme Metal Association) kept telling us how she had seen this band “Thunderunderus” and how awesome they were. She said we’d immediately form a rapport with these mortal musicians. We were excited to see what they could do.

They entered the Palace and we immediately started discussing how Michelle had recommended them, and how we were excited to see their battle skills. They seem confused, and said they didn’t know anyone named Michelle. Apparently Michelle had said “Thunder Snake” instead of “Thunderunderus”, and we had gotten them confused. ¯\(°_o)/¯

They asked if we wanted to play before them. Although we strongly recommended that we play last, due to the path of destruction we create, they insisted.

After seeing our show, they realized they had made a mistake. The bassist kept saying, “oh man, we should’ve listened.” Although their moral was lowered by the large amount of audience member deaths, they still put on one HELL of a show. From there, the bonds of brotherhood were cemented.

We’ve played a number of shows with Thunderunderus, and even spent a night piled into their Chicago efficiency. We made that place into one large bed. It was…kinda kinky. But hey, that’s touring!

We’ve shared the stage with Thunderunderus a number of times, including the first night of TRIDENTour2013. Skip to 1:28 to hear their thoughts on the “sitting wipe”:

One of Thunderunderus’ strengths is their intensely sing-along-able songs. We have SO many favorites from their 3 albums (including a new one – “Rollin’ the Troll” – that has yet to be recorded) that we had to link them all here.
